Bridgestone opt to take super-soft tyres to Valencia

Bridgestone opt to take super-soft tyres to ValenciaAfter a close run season, Bridgestone narrowly missed out on the constructors championship with Ferrari ending the season in 2 place, just 5 points short of Renault. The company did however cope with to go out on a high with Felipe Massa dominating the Brazilian GP to take a pole to flag victory. After 6 years of competitive tyre provision, the FIA Formula One World Championship is entering new era with Bridgestone confirmed as the sole tyre provisoner for the series from 2007 to 2010. Bridgestone welcomes the challenges that provisioning tyres to all 11 teams will bring.

This season Valencia makes its first appearance on the Formula One calendar and, after studying data from the first seven races of the season, Bridgestone have announced plans to take their super-soft and soft tyre combinations to the new Spanish track circuit, which will host the European Grand Prix in August.

“Valencia, of course, is new street track and we don't have any last colected data, and there is none from other race series," said Hirohide Hamashima, Bridgestone Motorsport’s director of motorsport tyre development. "It will be amusing for everyone concerned to learn the track characteristics here."

The Japanese company also confirmed that they have selected their hard and medium tyres for July's German Grand Prix. The same rubber will be taken to the Belgian and Italian tracks, due to the use of softer combination at both races last season.

“For Spa and Monza we have moved the allocation a position harder and will bring the hard and medium combination, instead of the medium and soft used in 2007," explained Hamashima. "We have made this change after analysing the data from previous year, as these tracks were harsher than we had expected.”

Bridgestone will announce their tyre allocations for the final 4 races of the 2008 season later in the year.
