Kimi Raikkonen runs over mechanic in Valencia
Ferrari's Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen runs over the refueling mechanic as he goes to leave the pits of at the Valencia street circuit on August 24, 2008, during the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe. The mechanics has been taken to the circuit medical center for checks.
"There isn't much to tell. I left pit stop a bit too early. It was my fault and unfortunately I pulled the guy who was refuelling. We need to look and see what really happened," he told.
Domenicali blamed the pit-stop error on a problem with the team's lights system used at pit stops.
Raikkonen was refuelling for the 2nd time at the same time as his McLaren-Mercedes rival Heikki Kovalainen.
Under pressure to return to the race ahead of his compatriot, Raikkonen took off while the fuel pump was still in his car.
Raikkonen reversed and apparently pulled the leg of the Ferrari mechanic, who was quickly carried away on a stretcher.
The Italian team hasn't revealed details of the mechanic's condition.
Raikkonen had a difficult race as few laps later his engine exploded and he was forced to retire from the race.
"It wasn't a great weekend, but it is not the 1st time. We are in a bit of a worse situation in the championship, but if we get all the things sorted then I think we still have a chance to come back," he told.
"We know what the issues have been, but unfortunately we haven't been able to sort them out. Hopefully now in the next test we can work a bit and try to find the solution for it. If we get the qualifying right it will help a lot."
