Felipe Massa's nightmare in Hungarian Grand Prix
Monza previous year effectively marked the end of Felipe Massa's championship challenge in Hungarian when he was forced to retire with a suspension issue. The team are aware that reliability will again be key for the Brazilian's title chances again this year.Contrary to initial claims that contact with a kerb had broken Massa's gearbox as he set out on his first flying lap of the segment in Hungarian, Ferrari has revealed that the reoccurrence of an earlier fault was to blame for the Brazilian's exit. "In the end it wasn't my day," Massa told looking back on the race. "When the engine failed I had a strange feeling. It was like a nightmare and I wanted to wake up, but I couldn't, because I was already awake! It was an incredible disappointment for Massa in Hungarian. This sport could be really cruel."
Massa's championship chances on this occasion weren't dealt too severe a blow as title leader Lewis Hamilton suffered a puncture and dropped from 2th behind Massa, to 5th at the chequered flag.
"Looking at the standings at least I could stay calm, because not even Lewis won, but we can't throw away points like that," Massa said. "We lost 10 points, but the positive aspect is, that we have demonstrated that we are strong. But we have got to resolve the remaining problems: we have to be as competitive as at Hungarian, but we need to increase our reliability. We can't repeat certain mistakes, we don't have any more excuses."
Massa is 3th in the championship, 3 points behind Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen and eight behind Hamilton.
